A spaceship made from the mathematical building blocks of quantum mechanics - spherical harmonic functions! This work of art was created in a multi-stage process (and AI was not involved): Each individual spaceship is drawn with manually created computer code based on the mathematical functions of theoretical physics. A spherical harmonic function is defined by a value for each combination of "longitude" and "latitude" on the surface of a sphere. It is a surface with many "lobes". I visualise this surface by drawing lines on it. In addition, I nest many of these surfaces to fill most of the shape. I use the 3D framework threejs to visualise these structures as objects in space so that I can view them from different perspectives. In a separate - completely manual - step, I use several of the images generated by the code to create a collage that circumvents the laws of perspective. Smaller spaceships - further away in my virtual cosmos - are brought closer to the viewer. When creating this work, I had my own workplace in mind: I would love for other techies, scientists or engineers to enjoy looking at my artwork on the walls of their gaming caves or workspaces!
