Care tips
Your Artwork Deserves the Best Care
We want you to be completely satisfied with your new artwork! Before your Meisterdruck leaves our workshop, it is thoroughly checked for quality, workmanship, and material. Nevertheless, even with the greatest care, mistakes can occur. If you are in any way not satisfied with your artwork, please contact us immediately. We do everything we can to ensure your desired image meets your expectations – promised. Here are a few tips for caring for and handling your picture, so you can enjoy it for a long time.
Let Your Artwork Acclimatize
Canvases, stretcher frames, and decorative frames are sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity. Give your painting a few days to adjust to your room climate. After transport, the canvas may feel a little loose at first. Simply hang it up and wait – in most cases, the canvas will tighten by itself within two to three days. If not, carefully re-tighten it with the wedges. For photo prints or watercolor boards you want to frame yourself, also allow at least a day for the paper to acclimate.
The Right Place for Your Picture
Direct and permanent sunlight, heat sources, or high humidity stress any artwork. To preserve the color brilliance, avoid placing your picture above radiators, lamps, or in damp rooms. The ideal humidity for canvases is about 50–60%, which is normal room climate. Larger fluctuations (e.g., in the bathroom or directly above an aquarium) can affect the tension or shape in the long term. Aluminum composite and acrylic plates are waterproof and unaffected by humidity.
Dusting Is Enough
Your artworks do not require elaborate cleaning. Simply dust them regularly with a dry, soft cloth (preferably microfiber). Never moisten the cloth. Never use sharp or pointed objects – not even vacuum brushes – to avoid damaging the varnish or paper. Art prints behind glass can be gently wiped with a damp cloth; acrylic and aluminum prints should also preferably only be dusted dry.
Protect Your Artwork from Water
Canvas prints are usually protected with varnish, making them splash-proof but not waterproof. If your picture comes into contact with water, dab the spot gently with a dry cloth – never rub! Never apply your own varnish or protective layers. Glazed pictures, acrylic or aluminum prints are more robust but should also only be dabbed, not wiped.
Careful When Handling and Transporting
Only touch photo prints on the outer edge or use gloves to prevent fingerprints. When transporting or storing, make sure to protect the edges and corners, as they are most sensitive to knocks.
Re-tensioning Canvases – The Right Way
If your canvas is loose, you can carefully re-tension it using the supplied wedges. Be gentle – too much tension can damage the canvas. Be especially careful with framed pictures so as not to damage the frame.
