Painting Frames "Marlen" |

| The Marlen picture frame combines understated elegance with a striking ornamental band. Its frame is made of solid wood and is 30 mm wide and 19 mm high. The black-and-red finish allows warm red hues to emerge along the edges and in the recesses. This makes the black appear less austere and lends it a pleasing depth. The structure is clearly defined: on the outside, a narrow, slightly raised moulding frames the profile. This is followed by a recessed central section featuring a silver-coloured ornamentation of recurring, tapering shapes. A dark, rounded inner edge then gently guides the eye towards the picture. The ornamentation is reminiscent of Gothic tracery friezes and lancet shapes, as seen in medieval architecture and later in historicist picture frames. Such decorative motifs often accompanied religious subjects, portraits or narrative depictions. Here, this tradition is rendered in a compact and graphic style. The irregular antique finish refracts the light on the raised silver-coloured areas, whilst the dark recesses remain matt. We particularly recommend Marlen for medieval illuminated manuscripts or symbolist portraits. It looks its best when the image features clear contrasts or individual warm red tones. We also find it an exciting choice for minimalist spaces where a deliberately placed ornament can make a statement. |
