Toni has the feel of an attic find that you dust off carefully and then never want to let go of. The solid wood features a multicoloured, patinated finish: rust-red and red glimmer through the black and anthracite, interspersed with flecks of antique gold. The grooved, brushed texture allows these colours to emerge and recede depending on the angle of the light. This creates depth without making the frame appear cluttered. The 40 mm wide and 29 mm high profile is constructed as a substantial concave moulding. From the raised outer edge, the surface slopes gently down towards the picture opening. This shape follows in the tradition of historic concave frames, whose purpose was to gather the light and, as it were, guide the viewer’s gaze into the painting. The narrow golden inner edge provides the defining finish: its warm antique gold captures the light and draws a clear line directly around the subject. We particularly recommend Toni for atmospheric landscapes or portraits with a dark background. It is shown to its best advantage when rusty tones, deep greens or warm skin tones in the picture establish a subtle connection with its surface. For us, it is a frame for pictures that lend themselves to atmosphere and are enhanced by a solid, warmly glowing border.
