Painting Frames "Margot" |
| • Serie: Dilinga • Width: 100mm • Height: 67mm |
| The Margot is one of those frames that makes us want to linger a moment longer. 100 mm wide, 67 mm high, solid wood with a continuous grain pattern across the cross-section, topped with a layer of ornamentation that fills the entire width of the profile’s back. The shape is a grooved moulding: from the outer curve, the profile slopes down in a gentle sweep towards the visible edge – a design you’ll recognise from Italian and South German picture frames of the 17th and 18th centuries. This sloping line draws the eye inwards, like a window jamb leading into the picture. Acanthus tendrils, small flowers and palmette fans run around the broad surface, whilst at the visible edge there is a delicate beaded moulding and a continuous arched frieze serving as a transition to the picture. The frame is finished in antique silver. The silver is applied as a glaze over a reddish ground, so that the peaks of the ornamentation glint brightly, whilst the recesses darken to a warm tone. In raking light, the frame never appears flat. We recommend it for Baroque portraits, still lifes by the Old Masters or images of the Virgin Mary. It is shown to its best advantage when the painting itself features calm areas that do not need to outshine its ornamentation. |
