Painting Frames "Eugenia" |
| • Serie: Dilinga • Width: 100mm • Height: 67mm |
| Measuring 100 mm in width and 67 mm in height, the Eugenia is a frame that requires space and creates space. Its profile rises from the outer edge in a gently curved groove, runs across a wide ornamental band of acanthus tendrils, flowers and volutes, and then descends in stepped decorative mouldings to the visible edge – a design familiar from Baroque and later Historicism box frames, which once housed oil paintings in salons and gallery halls. The cross-section reveals solid wood with a continuous grain. The antique gold finish is what makes it so beautiful: beneath the gold, a warm red shines through at the edges and ridges, as is typical of poliment backgrounds. In raking light, the sheen dances across the tendrils and bathes the recesses in a deep brown-red. We recommend the Eugenia for flats in older buildings with stucco ceilings and high walls, ideally above a walnut or cherry chest of drawers, with a wall colour in off-white, sage or taupe. In a loft, use it as a deliberate focal point against exposed concrete. In country-style rooms, it looks great above the fireplace. It is shown to its best advantage alongside Baroque portraits, Dutch still lifes or atmospheric landscapes with great depth. |
