Painting Frames "Aude" |
| • Serie: Berolina • Width: 30mm • Height: 23mm |
| The Aude is a 30 mm wide, 23 mm high frame made of solid wood – the cross-section reveals a continuous grain right up to the rebate, without any laminating. Its profile is a flat groove: from the outer edge, the surface slopes down in a gentle hollow towards the visible edge. This form originates from 19th-century framing practice, where grooved profiles were intended to guide the eye directly into the picture, rather than holding it back with ornamentation. This is precisely what it achieves here too: the gaze glides along the hollow towards the centre. The surface is finely grooved and brushed; the gold tone is champagne-coloured with a light, almost silvery sheen and dark speckles. In oblique light, the grooves catch the light in different ways, so that the surface appears lively rather than uniformly glossy. Inside and out, narrow dark-gold decorative edges frame the profile; the mitre joints are neatly finished. We are happy to recommend it for Impressionist landscapes or light-coloured watercolours – the understated golden hue complements warm tones without overshadowing them. It is at its best with subjects featuring a calm colour palette; highly contrasting, graphic works appear somewhat restless against this vibrant surface. |
