Painting Frames "Alba"

Alba is a multi-section wooden profile, 50 mm wide and 35 mm high, with a wonderfully striking sense of depth. On the outside, a dark copper-brown moulding rises, with a gently rounded back. This is followed by a slightly recessed groove, before the wide ornamental band comes to the fore. This sequence of height, recesses and relief gradually draws the eye towards the subject, without obscuring the frame’s rich design. The floral band features densely arranged, three-dimensionally modelled leaf motifs. Warm dark copper shimmers on their raised sections, whilst a dark patina lies in the recesses, emphasising every leaf vein. Scattered greenish traces are reminiscent of naturally oxidised copper. As a result, the changing light produces not a uniform sheen, but a lively interplay of copper-brown, almost black and muted golden areas. The narrow gold-coloured inner edge frames the motif like a line of light. Alba follows in the tradition of Baroque ornamental frames, whose bold foliage friezes accompanied religious paintings, portraits and stately landscapes. We particularly recommend it for portraits in dark tones or dramatic landscape paintings. It looks at its best when the picture features warm earth tones, deep green or golden highlights.
