Roger de La Fresnaye

    July 11, 1885   -   November 27, 1925
Cubism   •   Wikipedia: Roger de La Fresnaye

In the heart of France, in the city of Le Mans, Roger-Noël-François André de La Fresnaye was born on July 11, 1885. His artful interpretation of Cubism would make him one of the most famous painters of his time. Each art print made from his originals reflects the passionate dedication that de La Fresnaye brought to his craft. His art exudes an energy and joy of color that continues to captivate audiences today. His journey to artistic mastery began in Paris, where he enjoyed his schooling and then took courses at prestigious art schools such as the Académie Julian, the École des Beaux-Arts and the Académie Ranson. Inspired by famous artists such as Paul Gauguin and Paul Cézanne, he developed his own artistic language and turned to cubism. His works are not only geometrically appealing, but are also characterized by their vibrant colors and generous use of shapes. These unique elements are what make a de La Fresnaye art print a valuable addition to any art collection.

De La Fresnaye's volunteer work during World War I not only shaped his character, but also influenced his art. The drawings he made during this time impressively document life on the front lines. But the war took its toll - after a poison gas attack, de La Fresnaye contracted pulmonary tuberculosis and was eventually discharged as unfit for service. He retired to the south of France and died in Grasse in 1925 as a result of tuberculous meningitis. A Roger de La Fresnaye art print is more than just a replica of a painting; it is a witness to the past as well as an expression of the timeless beauty of art. Each of his works tells a story and invites us to look at the world through the eyes of one of the leading painters of Cubism.
