Post impressionism

Pierre Bonnard, born in Paris in 1867, is one of the Post-Impressionists with his colorful, colorful paintings. The painter, who studied law at first, joined the group of Nabis in 1888. These referred to Paul Gauguin, placed great value on decorative elements and felt connected to design and graphics.

Bonnard increasingly found his own pictorial language that harmonized a cheerful color palette with flat forms. "Bouquet of wild flowers" from 1922 shows how he pays attention to details and fanning the tablecloth, background and the individual flowers in beautiful color facets. This is about the feeling for the beauty of the fresh bouquet of flowers and the perception of an environment that in turn has decorative features. Portraits are also part of Bonnard's group of works: "Teddy Godeski writes" is not only dedicated to the down-focused, concentrated female figure, but also the ornamental background. The focus is on a yellow cushion and the mirror image.

Bonnard was not an extrovert artist. He lived in different places, painted again and again nudes, still life and views from the window. Even domestic scenes that show the eye for something special in everyday life, such as "Breakfast" from 1932 and 1936 are among his favorite subjects. Bonnard uses a firework of colors to bring a feeling for what is happening in the light-flooded room on the screen. The striking red tablecloth with the large teapot first draws the view into the center of the picture, and then wander into the distance from the window onto a lush green landscape with a yellow house. More important than colors of reality are feelings and focal points that can produce colors. © Meisterdrucke
