George Goodwin Kilburne was a British painter. Mainly he captured everyday scenes of the Victorian upper class. He had a very special preference for interiors. This is also shown by many of his paintings such as "Making a Cherry Pie", "Tea Time" or "The Wedding Dress". He captured the room dimensions and interiors with great precision. Every little detail was transferred to the canvas with fine brushstrokes. He mainly used watercolor and oil paints for his paintings. He specialized during his career mainly on the representation of the woman. At that time women were the epitome of Victorian beauty, with their dresses, their hair and their fine jewelry. Through his art, he frequented upscale circles. That promoted his success.

George was born in Norfolk in 1839, the eldest son of his parents, Goodwin Kilburne and Rebecca, née Button. In addition to his education at the Hawkhurst School in Kent, he learned early the craft of wood engraving. Therefore, George decided after graduation first for training as a woodcutter. He moved to London and was apprenticed to the Dalziel brothers for five years. He quickly inspired his teachers with his talent, determination and precise way of working. Later, they said that George had been their best apprentice ever. The creative woodcuts he made during his training later helped him to make his paintings. Shortly after his education, George Kilburne became self-employed as a painter. He perfected his talent quickly and quickly became one of the most sought-after painters of his time. He participated in exhibitions at the Royal Academy in London and the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.

Later he discovered traveling for himself. He paints in Rome, Normandy, visited Switzerland and discovered new regions in England. At the end of the 19th century, London companies commissioned him for advertising paintings. He designed Christmas and greeting cards. His illustrations were often duplicated and highly sought after. In those years Kilburne also joined many associations such as the New Watercolor Society or the Royal Academy of Oil Painters. It was followed by other exhibitions in well-known art galleries in the country such as in Glasgow or Manchester City. Also in London, his paintings hung in many public gallery houses in the city. Even his private life was extremely positive. He marries his great love Janet Dalziel early. You get a son, George Goodwin Kilburne Junior. He later becomes a well-known English animal and figure painter. The family lives in Hamstead, London. George Kilburne is an avid sportsman in addition to painting. Cycling, golf and horse riding are of interest to him, as is hunting. He should have been a very lovable, well-balanced person. After the death of his wife he marries his second wife Edith May with whom he gets two girls. He dies in London in 1924. © Meisterdrucke
