The life of Annibale Carracci seemed destined. As the son of a tailor, he should also learn this craft. His cousin changed that path and showed Annibale the world of painting. In the footsteps of Raphael and Tintoretto, the young men found access to art and culture. Together with Annibale's brother Agostino, three talented artists came together who fundamentally changed Italian art development. Especially Annibale showed great artistic skill. Born in Bologna Annibale had an education that he had deepened through study trips. Added to this was a certain amount of light-heartedness, which relieved him of the imitation of the great masters. Annibale's paintings are highly respected and gave the artist a nationwide reputation.

One of the most popular paintings in Italian art history is the bean eater. Annibale Carracci created with the work the first genre picture of the art. The depiction of an everyday scene without grotesque changes was not common until then. The representations of the common people were not desired by the clients and did not represent value to the viewer. The young Annibale showed an unconventional desire for renewal and showed a refreshing disrespect for state thinking. Carracci is considered with the introduction of genre pictures as a pioneer in the history of art in Italy.

Annibale was not just a provocateur. Together with his brother and cousin, the artists dedicated to the presentation of religious commissioned works. Likewise, Annibale devoted herself to painting landscapes. Noble compositions and an expressive coloring were characteristic of the works. While traveling, Annibale had looked at the works of Michelangelo and Raphael and took these ceiling designs as a model. Especially the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel formed the basis for Carracci's designs. In 1595, the artist was called to Rome and began decorating the palace of Cardinal Farnese. The work lasted eight years. According to legend, the artist plunged into a major crisis after completion. Although the frescoes gave him the highest recognition, but the remuneration was vanishingly small. As little as Annibale fell ill with sadness and did not recover. © Meisterdrucke
