Albert Pierre Rene Maignan

    October 14, 1845   -   September 29, 1908
Illustration , Orientalism   •   Wikipedia: Albert Pierre Rene Maignan

Albert Pierre René Maignan, born October 14, 1845, made history on the French art scene with his remarkable talent for history painting and illustration. A master of his craft, he paved his way through the captivating world of art, and his legacy continues today through the reproduction of his magnificent works in the form of fine art prints. Maignan, a born dreamer and artist, left his hometown in 1864 to study law in Paris. During this time, he ignited his passion for painting and acquired skills under the guidance of Jules Achille Noel. The art world got its first taste of Maignan's talent in 1867, when he debuted at the Salon, where he exhibited throughout his life from then on. In 1868, extensive travels shaped his artistic understanding as he painted in Rouen, Córdoba, Seville and on the Suez Canal - before its opening. Upon his return, he consolidated his skills in the studios of Evariste Vital Luminais.

Maignan's passion and dedication to art was recognized by numerous awards. In 1889, he was honored with a gold medal at the World's Fair, followed by a Medal of Honor at the Salon in 1892. Three years later, he received the distinction of Knight of the Legion of Honor. His skills extended beyond history painting, with numerous portraits as well. The influences of Henri Regnault are clearly evident in his Spanish and Orientalist paintings. After 1889, Maignan also turned to illustration and painting decorative murals. His works adorned the Salon des Lettres in the Hôtel de Ville and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Saint-Étienne. Between 1895 and 1899, he designed a series of tapestries for the Salle des Conférences in the Palais du Luxembourg. Maignan's influence reached far, as he was among the painters who decorated the foyer of the Opéra-Comique and was one of the few commissioned to decorate "Le Train Bleu," a famous restaurant at the Gare de Lyon, in 1900. The desire to breathe life into his art prints leads us to strive to reproduce every brushstroke, every nuance of color, and the entire artistic vision of Maignan at the highest level. Albert Pierre René Maignan's brilliant works evoke the magic of bygone eras and connect them to today - a connection we proudly uphold and celebrate.
