Pieter Brueghel the Younger - “Proverbs”
Art reproduction on canvas in an “Annelie” frame
In this version, Pieter Brueghel the Younger’s “Proverbs” appears as a densely populated visual world full of small scenes and hidden meanings. The work transports the viewer into a world where everyday actions become symbols and idioms, follies and human quirks are translated into narrative images. Brueghel the Younger, son of Pieter Bruegel the Elder, frequently drew on his family’s pictorial tradition and preserved their delight in detail, in the observation of folk life, and in morally pointed pictorial narratives.
The reproduction measures 65 × 47 cm and is executed on Leonardo (Satin) canvas. The satin finish clearly renders the intricate composition, the numerous figures and the nuanced colour tones. The motif is mounted on a stretcher frame and continues in a mirrored pattern at the sides, giving the edges of the picture a seamless appearance.
The work is framed by the classic decorative frame “Annelie” in blue with a gold grain. Measuring 66 mm in width and 32 mm in height, the frame provides a striking, colour-accentuated setting for the scene with its many figures. A hook hanger discreetly completes the finish.
