Homer’s ‘Breezing Up’ has that crisp, salty feel of the open air. The boat lies at an angle to the wind, the boys sit close together, and yet the scene does not seem dangerous, but alert and focused. Winslow Homer did not paint the sea as a mere backdrop. In his work, water has weight, wind has direction, and every figure has a purpose. It is precisely this blend of simplicity and tension that makes the painting so powerful: a bright day, a small boat, a moment in which everything depends on handling the wind and waves correctly.
The reproduction measures 80 × 50 cm and is executed on Leonardo (Satin) canvas. The satin finish brings out the bright shades of the sky, the rippling water and the clear contours of the boat in a balanced way. The motif is mounted on a stretcher frame and continues in a mirrored pattern along the sides, so that the edges of the picture appear seamless.
The ‘Lola’ shabby chic frame in dark brown complements the maritime, slightly rugged atmosphere of the motif. Measuring 21 mm wide and 38 mm high, it lends depth to the scene without weighing it down. A pegged zigzag hanging system completes the design.
