Paul Gauguin - “Sailing Ship in Moonlight”
Art reproduction on canvas in the “Lydia” frame
In this version, Paul Gauguin’s ‘Sailing Ship in Moonlight’ appears as a tranquil night-time scene set against the backdrop of the sea, light and the distance. The ship lies in the twilight of the picture, whilst the moonlight bathes the water and sky in a subdued, almost ethereal atmosphere. Gauguin, one of the defining artists of modernism, increasingly moved away from a purely naturalistic style in his works. For him, colour, surface and mood became means of expression in their own right, which not only described a place but also created an inner visual effect.
The reproduction measures 40 × 22 cm and is printed on Leonardo (Satin) canvas. The satin finish faithfully reproduces the dark tones, the soft transitions and the tranquil lighting in a balanced manner. The motif is mounted on a stretcher frame and continues in a mirrored pattern along the sides, giving the edges of the picture a seamless appearance.
The work is framed in the classic ‘Lydia’ decorative frame in green with a gold grain finish. Measuring 66 mm in width and 32 mm in height, the small composition is given a striking, colour-accented frame. A notched hanging mechanism discreetly completes the design.
