This picture was created shortly after the production of the picture "Blue hair". As with "blue hair" I combine here ornamental mandala patterns with a realistic graphite drawing of a tree trunk on a meadow. Thus two quite different techniques meet directly: the clear, two-dimensional geometric forms of the mandala painting and the nuanced, blurred shadings of the graphite drawing. But in my opinion, these two elements are not in competition with each other; in fact, they complement each other. Instead of leaves with their squiggly, often symmetrically arranged leaf veins, mandala circles grow out of the stem. And mandalas in Buddhism also symbolize the interconnectedness of all things and living beings in the universe. Thus, the mandala tree crown simply reminds us of what we tend to forget: We are all connected. We cannot do without the tree and the tree cannot do without us. But we only see this if we look at a tree with a different view than the everyday one, with a little imagination, with a "free mind". Because as Picasso once expressed it so wonderfully: "We all know that art is a lie. But it's a lie that makes us realize the truth."
