In 1835, John Constable painted the famous Stonehange with an imposing sky dipped in dark purple and violet tones. It was a sad time when Constable painted this watercolor. His wife and best friend had died and two of his sons had left the house. You can see the melancholy in the picture, in which he certainly expressed his feelings. Constable is said to have used "thousand" colors with speckles and stains to capture the complexity of the beauty of nature. He gave him a sense of drama, heroic deeds and narrative weight. Constable is still considered one of the greatest landscape painters in England.
