Yoshida Hiroshi was born the son of a samurai and later adopted by his own art teacher Yoshida Kasaburo. Because of the frequent moves in his childhood Yoshida life remained a rather unsteady nature, which helped him, however, as one of the few Japanese painters internationally great success. From the sale of his watercolors in the US, he financed travel through Europe, before he returned to the US and later to his homeland. Yoshida's watercolors and woodcuts, like this painting of a kumoi cherry tree in front of a setting sun, are not unlike those of romance, making many of Yoshida's works a unique synthesis of European and Asian painting. © Meisterdrucke |
