The Renate picture frame draws its charm from the subtle interplay between deep shadows and soft light. Its solid wood profile is 20 mm wide and 18 mm high. The rounded shape rises slightly at the outer edge, curves inwards through a dark grey to black-brown central section, and ends there in a narrow, similarly rounded edge. This gently guides the eye towards the subject without the frame appearing heavy. The inner and outer edges are finished in patinated antique silver. The brushed surface captures light falling from the sides in fine lines, whilst anthracite-coloured sections and the warm brown undertone lend depth. This two-tone effect is reminiscent of the narrow gallery frames of the 19th century, which often accompanied prints, portraits and smaller landscapes. We particularly recommend Renate for atmospheric landscapes by Caspar David Friedrich or finely drawn portraits. In a traditional Hamburg building, it looks lovely against off-white or smoky blue walls. In a loft, it creates a pleasant contrast to concrete and black steel. In a country house, it complements dark wood, linen and muted natural tones. It looks at its best when a little side light glints off the silver edges.
