Painting Frames "Mateja" |

| The Mateja picture frame is characterised by its clean, almost architectural lines. Its narrow wooden strip, 20 mm wide and equally high, is veneered with maple and finished in ebony. The black-brown hue has warm, dark-brown undertones. Beneath the matt finish, a fine, longitudinal wood grain remains visible, enlivening the dark tone without creating any visual distraction. Side lighting gently traces this structure, whilst direct reflections remain pleasantly subdued. The profile is constructed like a slender angle profile: a flat top strip forms a clean edge at the front and protrudes slightly towards the picture opening; beneath this, the strip drops straight down into the depth. This creates a narrow shadow zone on the inside, which visually brings the motif together and gives it a sense of spatial stability. This functional design is reminiscent of frames from Classical Modernism and New Objectivity. Such minimalist mouldings were particularly common in prints, photographs and works where the focus was not on ornamentation but on the picture plane and composition. We are happy to recommend Mateja for black-and-white photography or constructivist-abstract art. It looks its best in our range when dark lines, cool colour tones or distinct light-dark contrasts in the subject echo its calm ebony appearance. |
