Eleonor combines solid wood with a brushed, two-tone finish. Depending on the light, the wide outer panel appears dark green to emerald green. Light-coloured streaks break up the colour irregularly, lending it a vibrant, almost patinated depth. On the inside, a narrow, gently rounded edge in antique gold follows. Its fine dark lines temper the sheen, whilst the curve catches the light and draws the eye directly to the image. The 30 mm wide and 24 mm high profile has a compact design: a sturdy, almost straight outer body supports a gently rising shoulder that transitions into the golden inner edge. This stepped design creates space between the frame and the wall and clearly frames the subject without encasing it too heavily. The combination of a coloured outer band and a gold-effect inner moulding follows the tradition of Italian ‘cassetta’ frames, as used since the Renaissance for panel paintings and devotional images. Eleonor remains non-denominational. We particularly recommend it for Orthodox icons with a gold background or Catholic depictions of saints featuring shades of green, red and ochre. It looks at its best when the image itself incorporates some gold or warm earth tones. For this reason, we also consider it a lovely choice for religious artworks without a clear denominational affiliation.
