Painting Frames "Annerl" |

| What sort of picture is it designed for When we think of the Annerl frame, we immediately picture a picture that lends itself to a sense of intimacy and quiet festivity. Perhaps an old family photograph featuring familiar faces, or a small floral still life in soft colours. The narrow profile is made of solid wood and is approximately 2 cm wide and 19 mm high. It has a clear structure: on the outside runs a dark, contrasting ornamental band, followed by a flat silver-coloured surface featuring small, regularly spaced flowers. A delicate row of pearls draws the eye further inwards. There, the moulding slopes gently down towards the picture. This gives the subject a defined border without being constrained by the decoration. The shape is reminiscent of classical decorative frames, in which flowers, beaded borders and orderly friezes were used particularly for portraits and smaller paintings. The light silver colour is not mirror-smooth. It reveals warm cream-coloured and brownish traces, whilst the raised ornamentation catches the light. We particularly recommend ‘Annerl’ for historical portraits or delicately painted floral scenes. It is shown to its best advantage when the subject features subdued colours and lovingly rendered details. |
