Born in the narrow streets of Newcastle on May 15, 1784, the life story of Thomas Miles Richardson began in the modest classrooms of St. Andrew's Grammar School, where his father, George Richardson, taught. His career was initially anything but predictable. He didn't follow an academic route and didn't even start his career in art, learning from an engraver and a carpenter. But the limitations of craft work could not withstand his creative impulses. After five years as a master of his craft, he left the familiar path to form his own artistic identity and acquire a complex range of skills. His view of the world changed and the natural landscapes of the Borders and Scottish Highlands began to leave a lasting impression on his heart. Whether it was the green expanses of Scotland or the picturesque scenery of Italy and Switzerland, Richardson's passionate work as a landscape painter spanned many years and various locations. Each of his paintings is like a window into another world, richly detailed and vivid through his masterful watercolor technique.
Death befell Richardson on March 7, 1848, and he left behind a large family and a lasting influence on the art scene. His descendants, including George Richardson, Edward Richardson, Thomas Miles Richardson Jr, Henry Burdon Richardson, Charles James Richardson and John Isaac Richardson, were inspired by his artistic legacy and continued their father's profession. His works, especially the remarkable "View of Newcastle from Gateshead Fell" acquired by the Newcastle Corporation, bear the mark of his talent. His participation in numerous exhibitions in London, his membership in the New Watercolour Society, and the presence of his work in public galleries from South Kensington to Dublin and Liverpool illustrate the wide recognition of his skill. Richardson, a master landscape painter, created an everlasting visual chronicle of his travels and visions through his artwork.
