Capturing the beauty of nature with oil paints on canvas was the purpose of Johan Christian Dahl's life. Born in 1788 in Bergen, Norway, Dahl's path through life was soon clear to him. During this time, not only the gorge in Saxon Switzerland was created, but also the coastal view near Castellamare or the mill in Liebethaler Grund. In Venice, Dahl refined his technique and met, among others, the Berlin painter Catel. A little later he moved back to Dresden. There he lived with one of the most famous German Romantics in the same house. Dahl had a lifelong friendship with Caspar David Friedrich. Dahl's most famous works include not only his landscape paintings around Dresden, but also the megalithic grave near Vordingborg in winter or the fjord near Holmestrand. Today his paintings are exhibited in various Norwegian galleries, but also in the Alte Nationalgalerie Berlin or the Neue Pinakothek Munich. © Meisterdrucke
