Giacinto Brandi

    1621   -   1691
Baroque   •   Wikipedia: Giacinto Brandi

Unique in his creative power, masterful in his technique and unique in his influence, this is how Giacinto Brandi (* February 23, 1621 in Rome; † January 19, 1691 just there) entered the stage of art history. His life unfolds like a living painting, full of color, passion and depth. Born in the heart of Rome, in the house of his father Giovanni on Via Giulia, Brandi was baptized in the Basilica of San Giovanni Battista dei Fiorentini. Despite a common but erroneous belief that he was born in Gaeta, it is certain that his cradle was in Rome. When he was four years old, the family moved near the Basilica of Sant'Andrea delle Fratte, an environment that shaped and enriched his artistic journey.

Brandi, whose heart always beat for painting, began his artistic training in the workshop of Alessandro Algardi. However, as Algardi tried to introduce him to sculpture, Brandi decided to pursue his passion for painting, and in 1633 he moved to the workshop of Giovanni Giacomo Sementi, a student of Guido Reni. This change would shape his artistic journey and make him one of the most respected painters of his time. After working in Naples, Brandi returned to Rome in 1638, where he married Maria Teresa Cagieri, a woman of French origin, in 1640. There, in Via della Croce near Piazza di Spagna, he created his most magnificent works. He joined the Congregation of Virtuosi at the Pantheon and from 1651 attended the Accademia di San Luca, of which he became director in 1668. His recognition extended to the highest circles when Pope Innocent X raised him to the rank of knight and gave him prestigious commissions, including a cycle of frescoes in Palazzo Pamphilj in Piazza Navona. His works, reflected in the frescoes and paintings of numerous Baroque churches, we have reproduced as art prints with the utmost care and the highest quality standards.

His magnificent works, including the cycle "Fall of the Fallen Angels", "Flagellation", "Entombment", "St. Bruno" and "Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane", can be found in Rome. Today, we are honored to offer these works as art prints so that art lovers worldwide can enjoy and appreciate the legacy of this remarkable artist. Each art print is an ode to Brandi's talent and his ability to express deep emotional and spiritual themes through his art. His artistry lives on in our art prints, which aim to preserve and pass on the legacy of this great artist.
