Under the broad, luminous skies of Italy, a remarkable artistic soul was born in 1818 in Vasto, Chieti - Filippo Palizzi. This man was to become one of the most remarkable Italian painters of the 19th century, whose impressive works we capture in our art prints today.
In 1837, Palizzi moved to Naples, where he enrolled in the Royal Institute of Fine Arts. However, formal studies failed to ignite the ardor of his creative spirit, and he left the institution after a few months to turn to the private school of painter Giuseppe Bonolis. Through his brother Giuseppe, who had emigrated to France, Palizzi became acquainted with the painting of the Barbizon school, dedicated to the representation of rural landscapes in all their natural splendor.
Palizzi's artistic journey eventually took him to the 1855 World's Fair in Paris and on to the Netherlands. Upon his return to Paris in 1863, he began to work intensively on nature studies. His deep understanding and love of nature was evident in his works, which we offer as high-quality art prints. In the years that followed, he devoted himself to exploring light in his paintings, both in outdoor and indoor landscape scenes, often creating charming genre scenes of children with animals.
A passionate advocate of the modernization of academic teaching, Palizzi founded the "Società Promotrice di Belle Arti" in Naples in 1861, together with Domenico Morelli, and later in 1878 the "Museo Artistico Industriale". His services to art were recognized by numerous honors, including being named Commendatore of the Order of the Italian Crown and the Austrian Order of Franz Joseph.
Filippo Palizzi, whose life's work we celebrate in our art prints, died in Naples in 1899. But his legacy lives on in the works of his many students, such as Giovanni Patrone and Gaetano de Vito, and in the paintings of his brothers Francesco Paolo, Giuseppe and Nicola Palizzi, who were also painters. Our goal is to carry on and preserve his artistic legacy in our art prints.
