In the depths of the 19th century, in the picturesque town of Benešov, on October 28, 1863, the life of a man who would later become known as a vivid storyteller through the brushstrokes of his illustrations unfolded - Artuš Scheiner. At first glance, he was an ordinary tax official in the bustling city of Prague, but inside him slumbered a world of imagination and creativity just waiting to be brought to life. Scheiner's artistic journey began in the quiet seclusion of his workrooms, where he discovered and nurtured his passion for illustration. Once unleashed, this passion found expression in the numerous fairy tales, legends and novels he illustrated. Václav Říha, Božena Němcová, Karel Jaromír Erben and Hans Christian Andersen were just a few of the many authors whose works were enriched by his vivid drawings. In a world where the written word is often limited by its rigid medium, Scheiner's illustrations offered readers a visual extension of the imagined world, a window into the heart of the story.
His art, characterized by rich detail and ingenuity, is now not only represented in the world's great museums and galleries, but is also accessible in the form of high-quality fine art prints.
