Albert Goodwin was a British landscape painter who had a great passion for watercolor painting throughout his life. Goodwin was born in 1845 as one of nine children. He grew up in Maidstone, the capital of the English county of Kent. Albert finished his school career with a high school diploma. Although his artistic talents showed in his early childhood, Goodwin initially learned a crafting profession, like his father, who was a master builder. In his spare time he painted; preferably with watercolors. At the age of 15, his first paintings were exhibited.

After completing his education, he devoted himself entirely to his great passion, painting. He moves to London and studies at the Royal Academy of Arts. Two of his instructors, Ford Madox Brown and Arthur Hughes , become Goodwin's biggest sponsors. Both painters were members of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, an association of English painters who coined the art style of pre-Raphaelite in the mid-19th century. This stood for the detailed reproduction of nature. Her paintings were marked with the abbreviation "PRB". Goodwin was also able to identify with the goals of the Brotherhood. His paintings were strongly influenced by the idea of brotherhood. During his studies, Goodwin met the well-known London art critic John Ruskin . Ruskin was blown away by the exceptional talent of the young Goodwin. He invites the painter on a journey through Europe. During this trip, Albert Goodwin creates countless landscape sketches, which he later translated into detailed watercolors.

In the following years, Goodwin travels again and again through Europe. Visits different landscapes and draws in nature. Travel is becoming his second passion, which inspired him a lot. He is one of the most prolific artists in the country and produces more than 800 paintings during his lifetime. Later, he joined the Royal Watercolor Society, short "RWS", which was founded in 1804 in London. Unlike the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, the members do not develop their own artistic stare. Her concern was to increase the appreciation for watercolor paintings. They felt at exhibitions at the Royal Academy disadvantaged compared to the artists who exhibited classical oil paintings. Therefore organized from 1805 own exhibitions for water color artists, in which also Albert Goodwin regularly participated. The exhibitions were a great success. From year to year, more visitors came and sales of watercolors and watercolors rose sharply. This was a great success thanks to the painters of the Royal Watercolor Society. Goodwin painted into old age. © Meisterdrucke
