Persian art is more popular today than ever. Especially the historical works inspire with strong colors, richness of detail, elaborate calligraphy and beautiful motifs. Particularly noteworthy is Persian miniature painting, which makes reference to Persian mythology and poetry. At the beginning of the 20th century, these impressive works gained importance in the Western world. Styles and techniques were taken up by artists from all over the world. Typical are clear lines, strong forms and geometric figures, which determine the entire picture motif. The result is a complex body of work that invites discovery and wonder. The origins of this fascinating painting go back to the year 753, but are not art-historically clear. Persian miniature paintings take up the stories of Persian literature. They were an artistic complement to lyrical and epic works. The connection between art and poetry is particularly attractive. Epic Persian literature inspired literary and artistic creators worldwide. Thus, stylistic elements of this culture became accessible worldwide. In the course of time, different currents developed. Shiraz miniatures from the 13th and 14th centuries are strictly symmetrical. Towards the end of the 13th century, the Tabris School of Art emerged. The typical style of the period changed due to the influence of the Armeno-Byzantine style of painting. In the course of time, Persian art was constantly transformed by new ideas and new epic literary models. Impressively detailed works of art were created in a small space, which can be admired for hours. The representation is less static in the later course of time. Figures appear more natural. Persian miniature painting experienced its peak until the 17th century.
In the 18th century, a new trend emerged, dedicated to the depiction of nature. Filigree pictorial motifs of plants and birds convey a unique charm. Today's artists combine stylistic elements from all eras. Modern and traditional works enrich the art world and have their own charm. Persian calligraphy, also known as the art of beautiful writing, enjoys particular popularity. Filigree curved Arabic characters stand alone or are part of a total work of art. What all works of art have in common is their fairytale-like effect. Stylized floral patterns and ornaments make the special charm.
Each work of art tells its own story, which is revealed in all its details after intense contemplation. Closely related to the Persian school is the filigree arts and crafts. Noble pottery with ornate decorations, objects made of ceramics, stone work, decorated vessels and plates made of metal, as well as elaborate embroidery and weaving make up the diversity of the Persian school.
