Art print on Canvas Matte, 94cm x 140cm, stretched on stretcher.
By depicting a love affair between two women, Austrian Egon Schiele once again lived up to his reputation as the enfant terrible of the Austrian art scene. At the same time he has again confirmed himself as one of the greatest masters of Expressionism. The work of art from 1911 shows two women lying in an intimate embrace. They are both naked. The woman on the right has turned her face away from the viewer and presses it against the second woman, who looks at the viewer without her seeing him. Her eyes express exhaustion after an intense, distorting love game. Egon Schiele's art does not represent sexuality idealistically, does not gloss over it or hide it behind hints. In the works of the Austrian, the entire emotional effect of physical love emerges, which is primitive, rough and mortal. The portrayal of the two naked women in a hug expresses a deep eroticism outside social norms. The time around the year 1911, in which this work of art arose, proved to be difficult for Egon Schiele and was characterized by rejection. The inhabitants of the village where he lived at the time drove him away because of his liberal art and his sinful way of living. Later, he even spent several days in prison. The charge: offenses against public morality. © Meisterdrucke
