One of the most famous masterpieces in the world is "Las Meninas" by the Spanish painter Diego Velazquez from 1656. Even nearly 400 years later, the Baroque painting has lost nothing of its intense effect. Leading the way for the time is the complex work primarily the representation of the family of the Spanish King Philip IV. In the middle of the picture, his daughter is seen as a five-year-old, surrounded by a bevy of caring ladies and companions. On the left you can see the painter Velazquez himself: in front of the big screen, also looking directly at the observer, with his palette and brush in his hands. The mysterious man in the background of the picture is to represent the servants of the queen. In the mirror on the wall you can see the queen and the king. It was a wise move by the gifted painter Velazquez to capture this private moment in a composition that was unconventional for the time. Because the multi-layered view of the painting and within the picture itself makes the artwork a timeless pleasure.
