Murakumo Natural, 42g

Murakumo Natural paper is the epitome of Japanese paper artistry at its finest. This print medium is made from the soft fibers of the mulberry bush, which develops an organic surface texture through a ten percent blend of recycled pulp. Production follows the centuries-old tradition of screen moulding. To this day, the Awagami mill produces its papers while preserving the masterful Japanese art of handmade papermaking. What makes this paper truly unique is its lightness: at just 42 g/m², it weighs roughly half as much as standard letter paper. Remarkably, this parchment-like paper offers impressive durability despite its delicacy. It's as though the usual rule — that higher grammage means better print quality — simply doesn't apply here. Thanks to a fine coating, the matte, natural white surface of Murakumo paper delivers outstanding print quality and longevity.

The pure, natural character of an art print on Murakumo Natural paper makes it an elegant yet understated piece of interior décor. The soft texture and seeming weightlessness of the paper make it perfect for hanging in scroll form. Reproductions on this matte medium produce virtually no glare or reflections — a real blessing for the viewer, especially in rooms with artificial lighting. You can also spotlight the print without worrying about distracting reflections.

Murakumo Natural is a print medium that exquisitely embodies the aesthetics of traditional Japanese art. The subtle calligraphy of the Qing Dynasty, with its minimalist visual language, benefits from the paper's airy character. The interplay of black lines on a light background speaks to a restrained style of representation, further enhanced by the paper's understated surface. The paper also works beautifully for photographs, historical maps, and paintings that call for a subtle color palette. Overly color-intensive reproductions may overwhelm the delicate paper and cause rippling. Light botanical illustrations, on the other hand, are beautifully complemented by the paper's natural feel. The naturally toned white lends a nostalgic, antique quality that perfectly rounds off the genuine charm of the artwork.
