Sophia Elliot

"My work is a means of exploring the visual environment through a particular medium that lends itself to the ever-changing colors and light during the day, and equally to the varied colors that come from illuminated buildings and water reflections after dark." Day and night are constants that accompany Sophia Elliot's work. Apart from these components, the work is varied and marked by different creative phases. The reserved artist only shows a few excerpts from her life through her paintings. Her creative phase can be traced. The beginning is in the early 90s of the 20th century. The last paintings of the artist are dated 2010. Sophia Elliot allows the audience to accompany her over sixteen years of her artistic work. In doing so, the painter reveals the view she takes of the world in a very personal way. Sophia's life before painting and perhaps the time after belongs to her and there are few clues about these phases of her life.

Sophia Elliot is a British artist. She graduated from the Chelsea School of Art. The academy is located in the heart of London and Sophia Elliot's works, keep showing snippets of the British metropolis until late in life. One of her favorite places that the artist visited to feel the atmosphere of the city was South Bank. A London district on the banks of the Thames that was overlooked for a long time. Today, South Bank is a culturally appealing borough with a charming historic core. Here Sophia sought out views of Big Ben and Hungerford Bridge, which runs like a lifeline through the city at night. Sophia finds urban landscapes in London. Her painting is representational. A mode of representation that is rather unusual for contemporary art after its evolution into Abstract painting. Sophia Elliot describes her work as an experience that satisfies her emotionally with great intensity. The artist is filled with the wholeness that emanates from a landscape. I am able to embody not only the physical presence of the landscape in front of me, but also the spiritual presence and personality that emanates from the landscape.

The artist works in pastels, oils and acrylics, combining these mediums. This allows her to work quickly, capturing the nuances of color and form that exist for only a tiny moment. Elliot thus creates atmospheric landscapes that thrive on vivid perspective and line. Sophia Elliot's paintings are a look through her eyes, at the things she has encountered. Particularly striking are works that were created over a long period of time in India and in Cornwall. They are bright and cheerful works, presumably created during extended stays.
