La Primavera (in English, "Spring") is one of Sandro Botticelli's most famous allegory paintings. On display are several strategically arranged figures, the typical attributes of spring: three graces in transparent robes, the spring goddess Flora in floral dress. Cupido symbolizes love, which is known to belong to spring, it hovers directly above the center Venus, the goddess of love. There is much more in the picture than some young girls grouped around the main character Venus. What's up with the orange trees in the background, then becomes just as clear: Oranges are fruits of winter, unless you are in paradise. And are not love and spring paradise? Are you? Paradise is to last forever, so it takes the young man on the left in the picture: He represents the god Mercury, who drives away the gathering clouds with his staff. © Meisterdrucke |
