The artist Gustav Klimt is known for his unique, often golden shimmering paintings in Art Nouveau style. One of his most popular works is the Beethovenfries from 1901, with which he interpreted Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. The picture cycle consists of several parts, which were staged as a Gesamtkunstwerk in the Vienna Secession. Allegorical figures stand for the yearning for happiness and the struggle with evil. On the image section "The Enemy Powers" as part of the Beethoven Frieze, the giant Typhoeus can be seen in the shape of a monkey. In addition, there is lust, unchastity and intemperance, portrayed as women and surrounded by shiny gold with mosaic-like elements. Curved shapes dominate this picture detail. Although symbolizing the evil forces, this unique work is harmonious and peaceful. In a fascinating way, Klimt succeeded here in unifying contrasts. © Meisterdrucke
