39612 artists found. Not every artist can be attributed to a particular style or epoch at the outset. This is due to the fact that the style of many painters has changed in the course of their lives and that they have tried out different directions, and on the other hand, that creative minds rarely swim with the current but accidentally strike a similar direction.
How should one assign a specific stylistic direction to the work of an artist who used different painting techniques and explained numerous different motifs to the subject of his works? Moreover, a true artist does not design his works in such a way that they correspond to the criteria of a stylistic direction. No, he gives free rein to his own creativity. Many Kunstoches were, at all, subsequently subdivided and defined as such, on the basis of the common characteristics which linked many works of a certain time. Artistic influences influenced many artists more and less. Especially from the beginning of the twentieth century, styles are more coarse gradations than concepts that grasp a zeitgeist entirely, or denote groups of artists who inspired and influenced one another.
