Caricatures / comics are images that their protagonists often depict. Especially in caricatures are so often criticized political or social grievances. The origins of both art forms - which are usually not clearly distinguishable - are in the ancient world. Already in Egyptian tombs are found picture stories, which are provided with a text from hieroglyphs. Roman columns of victory and wall paintings, such as in Pompeii, are nothing but early comics. In some cases the first distorted representations, which are reminiscent of the caricatures of today, are also partially found.

During the Middle Ages, images, such as on wall rugs or in churches, are a good means of telling and bringing to the fore the largely illiterate population stories. There are always satirical motifs.

The caricature then experiences a first climax during the Reformation period. Protestants and Catholics use them alike to disparage the other side on leaflets. Finally comic and cartoon ending in the eighteenth century in England. In short, humorous and spiked with satirical pages, they are reprinted and distributed in jokes and cartoon pages.

In the late 19th century, the comic in the US became more and more popular in Europe. In the meantime, the satirical and narrative narrative of art and literature has become indispensable.
